It depends, but Angeles Mediation recommends at least one party hire a lawyer. A lawyer can represent you through all stages of the mediation process, or just part of it. Some people choose to resolve their cases without hiring a lawyer. In some cases just one party will have a lawyer represent them.
Angeles Mediation cannot write up the necessary documents to start and finish a court case. Only lawyers, or the parties, can write up court papers.
If the parties don’t have a lawyer, Angeles Mediation can write up a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and you can take that to a lawyer to review and give you advice. This kind of service by a lawyer is called “unbundled services.”
Angeles Mediation can provide basic legal information, but cannot provide legal advice to either party.
